The new Canyon Grizl:ON: The most versatile e-gravel bike ever?!

March 5, 2024 by Florian Nowak

Product news: The new Canyon Grizl:ON is the latest e-gravel bike from the German manufacturer from Koblenz. Inspired by the versatility of the “classic” Grizl, the motorized Graveler is one of the most versatile e-bikes that Canyon has ever developed and is therefore an ideal companion for everyday life and adventures big and small.

The clever setup and innovative construction of the new Caynon Grizl:ON make it a real eye-catcher even on paper. Designed as a lightweight e-bike with racing handlebars and progressive, comfort-oriented geometry, the aim is to offer even more options.

The heart of the Canyon Grizl:ON CF family is the light and all-round adventure-ready carbon frame, which is equipped with the Bosch Perfromance Line SX drive for active riding pleasure. With a system weight of just 2 kilograms, the drive is significantly lighter than the CX variant. The smaller motor, together with the carbon frame, ensures agile handling and a sporty driving experience. With 55 Nm of torque, the Bosch SX system strikes the perfect balance between powerful support and real feeling.

The main battery of the Bosch system has a capacity of 400 Wh and an optional range extender with 250 Wh, which should provide the necessary range for long days in the saddle. For worry-free parking, the Bosch Flow app with the connectivity module built into the bike offers a two-stage alarm and an effective location function.

The comfort of the new Canyon Grizl:ON e-gravel bike was particularly important during development, because this is the only way to get a really pleasant riding experience. Thanks to the proven S14 VCLS 2.0 seat post with an innovative and lightweight leaf spring concept, the Canyon seat post offers enough travel with an offset of +2 to -10 mm to effectively absorb smaller shocks and vibrations. As an alternative, the CF Trail version uses the wireless RockShox Reverb AXS XPLR dropper post with a 75 mm adjustment range, which should provide even more fun and control on technical terrain.

The Grizl:ON can be steered confidently through mixed terrain thanks to the new gravel handlebar with 16° flare, the 60 mm short ST0037 stem and the flat head angle of 69,5°. The seat angle of 74° also ensures good climbing behavior and a slightly more relaxed sitting position than on the classic Grizl without an electric drive.

A few other special features and highlights make the Canyon Grizl:ON models something very special and increase the versatility of the bikes. Innovative components such as the Canyon x Lupine SightStays taillights, optional Fidlock QuickLoader bags or mudguards and 40 mm of travel through a suspension fork at the front.

At the front, a Lupine Nano SL headlight with anti-dazzle function that can be switched from the gravel-specific handlebars brings light into the darkness. All lighting is powered by the e-bike's main battery.
At the rear, the Canyon x Lupine SightStays system with two elegantly integrated taillights ensures the best possible visibility from every direction, even when fully loaded.

In addition to its protective function, the rear mudguard has a luggage rack system that can hold up to 3.1 kg of load via the Ortlieb QL15 system. Canyon has also developed a special edition of the Gravel Pack together with Ortlieb, which offers 14,5 liters of storage space on each side for life's adventures, big and small.

Canyon has given its Grizl:ON lineup a total of four different models and can therefore have something in its portfolio for every taste. All Canyon Grizl:ON CF models are equipped with a RockShox Rudy suspension fork, different DT Swiss wheels, Schwalbe tires, Canyon HB0064 Ergo AL handlebars and Fizik Argo Terra X5 saddle as well as the Canyon x Lupine SightStays system and a Lupine Nano SL headlight. The bike is rounded off by DT Swiss HGC14000 wheels and 50 mm wide Schwalbe G-One Ultrabite tires. The price is 7.999 euros.

Grizl:ON CF 9

The Grizl:ON CF 9 weighs an impressive 15,9 kilos, making it the lightest model in the lineup. With the Sram Force AXS XPLR groupset, the Canyon S14 VCLS 2:0 seat post for maximum comfort and the DT Swiss HGC1800 wheels with 45 mm wide Schwalbe tires, this model is available for 6.999 euros.

For additional everyday suitability, this model is equipped with the Defend Fender Carrier as standard. The price of the CF Daily model is 5.499 euros.
