Axel Laurance celebrates his second win of the season

The fifth stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya came to an end today with a sprint from a decimated peloton. After 167,3 kilometers from Altafulla to Viladecans Axel Laurance (Alpecin – Deceuninck) the fastest legs. The Frenchman pointed out Marijn van den Berg (EF Education – EasyPost) and Bryan coquard (Cofidis) in an intense sprint to second and third place. The 22-year-old is celebrating his second success of the season after his victory at the Etoile de Bessèges. The overall standings continue to lead confidently Tadej pogacar (UAE). The Slovenian will be in demand again tomorrow when we head back to the high mountains.

Georg Steinhauser in the escape group

The German George Steinhauser (EF Education – EasyPost) was part of the escape group. However, due to the speedy work of Israel – Premier Tech, the outliers had no chance today. The UCI ProTeam pushed the pace enormously on the last climb - the Alt de la Creu d'Aragall - so that some sprinters were no longer able to take part in the fight for the day's victory. Ultimately, the Israeli team was unable to translate their hard work into a good result.
