Cycling: Nick Schultz won the start of the Tour of Catalonia. The Australian surprised everyone with an attack about a kilometer from the finish. Tadej Pogacar's sprint came too late.

Schultz attacks at the right moment

To a duel with Tadej pogacar (UAE) you shouldn't get involved in the last few meters. That's exactly why Nick Schultz (Israel – Premier Tech) launched his attack one kilometer from the finish – with success. The Australian won the start and finish in Sant Feliu de Guíxols after 173,9 kilometers in an uphill sprint in a decimated peloton. The 29-year-old narrowly left the two-time winner of the Tour de France behind. Previously, the UAE Team Emirates in particular ensured that the stage was tough by increasing the pace. At the crucial moment, however, the team failed to maintain control and thwart Schultz's attack.

The 103rd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya ends on Sunday in Barcelona. It leads a total of seven stages, all of which can be described as mountainous or at least hilly. They therefore offer the top favorite Tadej pogacar (UAE) a perfect preparation for the Ardennes Classics and the Giro d'Italia.
