Advanced Tubeless Repair Tool in the test: MaXalami Key-22 mini tool

19 April 2024 by Andrew Waldera

Test Minitools: In addition to “normal” roadside repairs, the MaXalami Key-13 and Key-22 multifunctional tools also enable quick patching of tubeless tires. For this purpose, the two tools each have a foldable insertion tool for tubeless patches. We took a closer look at the MaXalami Key-22, which is equipped with 22 functions, as part of our Minitool test series.

MaXalami Key-22 Minitool: Structure and processing

In addition to the usual tools, the Key-13 and Key-22 multitools from MaXalami include a special insertion tool for tubeless patches. For just under 55 euros, the buyer receives a very high-quality product with the Key-22, which is particularly recommended for longer bike tours due to its range of functions. A set of Allen keys from 2 to 8 mm is also included, as are two Torx keys (T25/T30), a chain riveter (8 to 11 times) or a screwdriver with a slot or a Phillips head. The tool also has several spoke wrenches, with the Mavic M7 and Mavic M9 versions certainly worth highlighting here.

handling

All tools can be folded out smoothly and the recess in the frame ensures a good grip. The MaXalami Key-22 mini tool is definitely not lacking in features. But not everything always makes sense. The metal tire lever should be used with caution, especially on sensitive rims. With the open-ended wrenches included in the tool, you can quickly 'fix' the nuts due to the extremely small contact areas. Due to the design, the handling is also not really convincing. Unfortunately, the other tools are very short in length, which means that not all places on the bike can always be easily reached.

The MaXalami Key-22 mini tool impresses with its great workmanship and also looks very high-quality. However, the good grip feeling is contradicted by the short length of the tools. The open-end wrenches or tire levers should only be used with caution.
