Marco Brenner celebrates in Bad Dürrheim
What a surprise in the German National Road Race Championships: Marco Brenner (Tudor) secured the German Champion's jersey. On the very hilly course to Bad Dürrheim, the 21-year-old sensationally prevailed as a soloist. Together with four companions, he broke away from the peloton early on, before forming a leading duo with Florian Lipowitz (Bora-hansgrohe). He left Lipowitz behind on the final climb to ride solo to his biggest triumph to date. Kim Heiduk (Ineos Grenadiers) completed the podium. In the women's road race, Franziska Koch (dsm-firmenich PostNL) emerged victorious. The 23-year-old triumphed in a two-woman sprint ahead of top favorite Liane Lippert (Movistar). Antonia Niedermaier (Canyon//SRAM) completed the podium.
Bora – hansgrohe wins in Austria
Many cycling fans were likely surprised that Bora-hansgrohe, the overwhelming favorite, failed to win the men's race in Germany. However, they still had reason to celebrate. In Austria, Alexander Hajek (Bora-hansgrohe) emerged victorious. The 20-year-old finished ahead of Gregor Mühlberger (Movistar) and Felix Großschartner (UAE). This marks the biggest success of his young career, and it came at the National Championships.
