Tour de France: Roglic & 3 other riders have to leave the Tour

July 12, 2024 by Michael Behringer

Tour de France

Cycling: Bad news for all fans of Bora – hansgrohe: Primoz Roglic unfortunately has to leave the Tour de France after his crash. Three other riders were affected yesterday because of the time limit.

Roglic is eliminated for the third time in a row

The Tour de France and Primois Roglic – this is probably not going to be a love affair anymore. The Slovenian has to abandon the Tour de France due to injury after his fall yesterday and will not compete in today's 13th stage. His team Bora – hansgrohe announced this via Twitter. This means that Roglic will be out of the Tour de France for the third time in a row, after having to abandon the race due to injury in 2021 and 2022 and not taking part in 2023. The Bora team management did not provide any precise details about the injury. The fatal fall occurred on yesterday's 12th stage around twelve kilometers from the finish, when alexey lutsenko (Astana) overlooked the fact that the white central stripe was not painted on, but was actually physically present. While no blame could be heard from the German racing team, Visma – Lease a Bike sounds quite different. Sports director Merijn zeeman found with his sentence “This is 100 percent the organization’s fault” clear words.

Philipsen loses two helpers

Yesterday, three riders had to give up before and during the stage. Then, three more professionals failed to meet the time limit. The heat, the strenuous stage of the previous day and the strong tailwind made it impossible for the trio to keep the gap to a minimum. Therefore, today's 13th stage Yevgeny Fedorov (Astana), Jonas Rickaert (Alpecin – Deceuninck) and Soren Kragh Andersen (Alpecin – Deceuninck) will no longer compete. This is particularly bitter for sprinters Jasper Phillipsen (Alpecin – Deceuninck), who will lose two important helpers. It is quite possible that his Belgian team will no longer be able to do any follow-up work on flat stages.

Primož Roglič underwent careful examination by our medical team after yesterday's stage and again this morning. The decision has been taken that he will not start today, to focus on upcoming goals.
