Cycling: Mads Pedersen won the fourth stage of the Deutschland Tour, making it a perfect tour for Lidl – Trek. All five daily victories went to the US team. The Dane can also be happy about the overall victory.
Pedersen wins the stage and the GC
Even on the final day of the Lidl Deutschland Tour, the Lidl-Trek team remained unbeatable. Mads Pedersen parried all attacks, launched his own, and ultimately won the stage in a sprint finish with a small group. This means all five stage wins go to the American team. In the final five kilometers, a small group broke away from the peloton and contested the stage victory amongst themselves. Mads Pedersen, of course, wasn't about to let the overall victory slip away. Florian Stork (Tudor) also had a strong showing today and throughout the previous days. His fifth-place finish on the stage improved his overall ranking to seventh.
Nordhagen wins the mountain classification
On the 182,7-kilometer stage from Annweiler am Trifels to Saarbrücken, five riders dominated the race for much of the distance. Javier Romo (Movistar), Joshua Huppertz (Lotto – Kern Haus), Oliver Mattheis (Bike Aid), Max Walscheid (Germany), and Alberto Bruttomesso (Bahrain – Victorious) were given a lead of more than four minutes. However, they were unable to contest the stage win among themselves. And even though they secured today's mountain classifications in Kalmit, Grossbundenbach, and Ormesheim, they could no longer challenge for the King of the Mountains jersey. With 15 points, Jorgen Nordhagen (Visma – Lease a Bike) was uncatchable. Jonathan Milan (Lidl – Trek) takes home the points jersey after his three stage wins.
