Cycling: Jonathan Milan has won the opening race of the Deutschland Tour. The Italian sprinter was one second faster than his Danish teammate Mads Pedersen in the prologue in Schweinfurt.

Milan & Pedersen: Double victory for Lidl – Trek

Things couldn't have gone better for the new main sponsor of the Lidl Deutschland Tour. The Lidl-Trek team managed a one-two victory in the prologue in Schweinfurt. jonathan milan from Italy was one second faster than Mads pedersen from Denmark. The two sprinters mastered the technically demanding course with a length of 2,9 kilometers in the city center of Schweinfurt in a time of 3:16 and 3:17 respectively. They thus beat the Dutch prologue specialist Maikel Zijlaard (Tudor) in third place. The Swiss Stephen Bissegger (EF Education – EasyPost) finished fifth. The best German was Jannik Steimle (Q36.5) in seventh place ahead of the Austrian Mark Haller (Bora – hansgrohe).



Deutschland Tour 2024: Another course for the classic specialists

The Deutschland Tour 2024 is also something for the classic specialists in the field. After today's prologue, the Lidl Deutschland Tour takes the professionals over four hilly sections. Tomorrow it goes from Schweinfurt to Heilbronn, then via Schwäbisch Gmünd, Villingen-Schwenningen and Annweiler am Trifels to Saarbrücken. However, there is not really anything for the classic flatland sprinters. All stages include numerous hilly challenges.
