Climbing specialist from Switzerland: BMC presents the fifth generation of the Teammachine SLR 01

June 25, 2025 by Florian Nowak

Product news: With the BMC Teammachine SLR 01 Gen 5, the Swiss premium manufacturer presents a comprehensively redesigned road bike specifically designed for mountain enthusiasts and climbing specialists in modern road cycling. The new platform focuses on weight savings, aerodynamic optimization, and targeted stiffness improvements – with the goal of offering a balanced combination of efficiency, handling, and comfort. We took a look at the new model just in time for its launch.

The frame of the new BMC Teammachine SLR 01 has been fundamentally redesigned, and the painted version in size 54 weighs 222 grams less than its predecessor. This reduction was achieved through further development of the carbon layup, revised tube profiles, new manufacturing technologies, and lighter logos and paint finishes. Despite the reduced weight, bottom bracket and head tube stiffness remain at the same level as the previous generation and the Teammachine R 01.

BMC Teammachine SLR 01

Aerodynamically, the SLR 01 Gen 5 benefits from the insights gained from the development of the Teammachine R 01. The reduced frontal area, new fork design, optimized tube shapes, and a modified aero seatpost are designed to minimize drag without compromising comfort. Maximum tire clearance is 32 mm, allowing the bike to meet the demands of modern racing while remaining UCI-compliant.

BMC Teammachine SLR 01 – More Integration

The integration has been further developed: The ICS cockpit system and the fully internally routed cables contribute to clean lines and improved aerodynamics. Design decisions are based on CFD simulations, wind tunnel tests, and collaboration with the Impec Lab and external aerodynamics experts.

Direct handling and comfort combined

BMC Teammachine SLR 01

Based on the geometry of the Teammachine R 01, the new SLR 01 offers a direct, agile ride and precise handling across all frame sizes (47–61 cm). The Tuned Compliance Concept (TCC) contributes to vibration dampening without compromising the sporty, direct ride. A specially developed aero seatpost also provides vertical compliance.

BMC Teammachine SLR 01 – Models at a glance

The Teammachine SLR 01 is available in the following configurations or as a frameset. The SLR 01 FRS (frameset in various color variants) weighs 1455–1500 grams for 4.999 Euro

SLR 01 ONE (Carbon / Neon Red) with Sram Red AXS, 6,6 kg, 12.999 Euro

SLR 01 TWO (Blue Carbon / White) with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2, 6,6 kg, 12.999 Euro

SLR 01 THREE (Metallic White / Silver) with Sram Force AXS, 7,1 kg, 8.499 euros

SLR 01 FOUR (Carbon Black) with Shimano Ultegra Di2, 7,1 kg, 8.499 euros

With its new setup, the new BMC Teammachine SLR 01 Gen 5 is likely aimed primarily at ambitious riders who value low weight and climbing performance – especially in mountain stages and alpine races. Compared to the aerodynamically focused Teammachine R 01, the focus here is on maximum efficiency on climbs.

The focus on low weight, sophisticated integration, increased aerodynamic efficiency and proven riding performance makes the model a consistently developed platform for ambitious riders in competition and training environments.

About Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
