Cycling: Georg Zimmermann has won the German Championship. In a thrilling race, the 27-year-old emerged victorious from a group in the sprint. Franziska Koch celebrates in the women's race.
Zimmermann takes the title
The new German road cycling champion is Georg Zimmermann (Intermarché – Wanty). The 27-year-old prevailed on the 198-kilometer circuit, starting and finishing in Linden, ahead of Felix Engelhardt (Jayco AlUla), after a riding time of over four and a half hours. Things didn't look so promising for him during the race. At a very fast section, Zimmermann suffered a mechanical, was dropped back, and was only able to rejoin the leading group with the help of his teammate Jonas Rutsch (Intermarché – Wanty). In one of the most exciting German Championships in recent years, Anton Schiffer (BIKE AID) also impressed, finishing third. In the women's race, Franziska Koch (Picnic PostNL) successfully defended her title. Leni Bauer and Benedikt Benz (JEGG-SKIL-DJR) captured the German champion jersey in the junior women's and junior men's categories, respectively.
Schachmann & Niedermaier German Time Trial Champions
In the time trial, Maximilian Schachmann (Soudal Quick-Step) won his first German national championship title. On the 22,5-kilometer course, starting and finishing in Ramstein, he beat Miguel Heidemann (REMBE | rad-net) by 17 seconds. Antonia Niedermaier (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) triumphed in the women's race . Bruno Kessler (REMBE | rad-net) and Justyna Czapla (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) celebrated victories in the U23 category.
