Cycling: Vincenzo Albanese prevailed on the challenging second stage of the Tour de Suisse. The Italian won ahead of Swiss rider Fabio Christen. Frenchman Romain Grégoire remains the overall leader.
Albanese sprints to first win of the season
The Italian Vincenzo Albanese (EF Education – EasyPost) won the second stage of the Tour de Suisse. After 177 kilometers from Aarau to Schwarzsee, he was faster than the Swiss in a challenging sprint. Fabio Christians (Q36.5) and the Briton Lewis Askey (Groupama – FDJ). With Jonas slip (Intermarché – Wanty) from Germany and Mauro Schmid (Jayco AlUla) from Switzerland, the last two early escapees were caught a few kilometers from the finish. A subsequent attack by the Swiss Jan Christen (UAE – XRG) was also unsuccessful.
Grégoire won the opening match in Küssnacht
At the start of the 88th Tour de Suisse, Romain Gregoire (Groupama – FDJ) secured the victory and thus the overall lead. In poor weather, the Frenchman was able to break away from his teammates and even secure a lead in the overall standings. The big winner was Ben O'Connor (Jayco AlUla). The Australian is considered his team's proven GC captain and lost only 1:07 minutes to the day's winner. This gives him a lead of over two minutes over his opponents, including the top favorite Joao almeida (UAE – XRG). On Sunday, the Tour de Suisse ends with a mountain stage in Stockhütte.
