Abus Gamechanger 2.0: Many colors and good aerodynamics
The Abus Gamechanger was presented at Eurobike 2017 and was a real aerodynamic success, as wind tunnel tests showed. One goal during its development was to reduce the influence of head position on air resistance – evident, for example, in how wind noise changes when the head is moved – namely, almost none at all.
Compact, lightweight aero helmet
The second version, presented in 2023, has been further improved in terms of aerodynamics and ventilation; a "running change" during production (which, incidentally, takes place in Italy) ensured that the helmet fits even more comfortably on the head thanks to an improved interior shape. The Gamechanger 2.0 is slightly longer, but still retains its compact design and is also quite slim.
The Abus helmet sits quite high on the head, which is noticeable in the space above the ears, even though it reaches the eyebrows at the front. Modern cycling glasses with large lenses can easily touch the lower edge of the helmet; to ensure sufficient airflow to the forehead, there's now a horizontal vent. If it gets too warm under the Gamechanger, you can switch to the Abus Airbraker, like the Movistar riders, which focuses on ventilation rather than aerodynamics.
Three sizes and many colors
The helmet, available in three sizes, is height-adjustable to three levels, which works well. The adjustment wheel is small and the closure appears minimalist, but requires a bit more force to open. Typical of Abus are the straps sewn under the ears, which feel very comfortable. There are, of course, no adjustment options here, although Abus argues that the ears are essentially always in the same position in relation to the helmet. All of these features contribute to weight reduction, and at just under 260 grams, the Abus Gamechanger 2.0 is indeed quite light. The wide range of colors is a plus; the price of €250 is perfectly reasonable considering the performance offered.
