All Tour de France team helmets: The Tudor helmet: Oakley Velo Mach

June 12, 2025 by Marcus Degen

Oakley Velo Mach: Smooth shapes from the eyewear specialist

The brand-new Team Tudor helmet is currently only available in the red team version on Oakley's website; however, our matte black test sample shows that other versions are available and will be available. Helmets have been available from the US eyewear specialist for some time, and they are definitely not a "me-too" product. The Velo Mach is of high quality and impresses with its smooth, understated shape, which presumably represents good aerodynamics.

The large central opening ensures ventilation.
At the back, the Oakley helmet appears round and closed.

In addition to the closed shell, which has only a central air intake and small openings on the sides, the tiny "dorsal fins" called "flow conditioners" at the rear are striking. These are designed to improve airflow at high speeds such as during sprints. At the rear, the helmet tapers to a spoiler lip designed to reduce turbulence.

Rubberized eyewear garage for Oakley

The front opening directs the airflow through a wide channel over the head; some air can also flow through the two small side holes, which primarily serve as goggle holders, with rubberized padding ensuring a secure fit. The helmet is soft but not overly padded; the rubberized adjustment dial is easy to operate, and the straps with adjustable tensioners appear to be of high quality.

Of course, a good goggle garage is a must for an Oakley helmet.
At the back/top you can see the small “fins”.

Slim helmet in only two sizes

Oakley offers the Velo Mach in only two sizes, M and L (the brand's other helmets are also available in S). However, the large model is already too small for a head circumference of 61 cm, especially since the helmet has a rather narrow cut. That's a shame, because the matte helmet also has a pleasing feel, and as a good compromise between everyday use and aerodynamics, it could find many fans—especially among cyclists who wear the manufacturer's eyewear. Additional sizes would certainly be useful, as the weight of 263 grams (L) and the price of €300 are also acceptable.
