Cycling: Joao Almeida has won the seventh stage of the Tour de Suisse. The Portuguese rider won the uphill sprint for the stage victory from a five-man group of favorites, gaining valuable bonus seconds.
Almeida sprints past Onley and Vauqelin
The 207,3-kilometer stage from Neuhausen am Rheinfall to Emmetten was won by Joao Almeida (UAE – XRG). The Portuguese rider prevailed in a thrilling uphill sprint ahead of Oscar Onley (Picnic – PostNL) of Great Britain and Frenchman Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa – B&B Hotels). This victory also brings Almeida closer to the yellow jersey in the overall standings, leaving him just 33 seconds behind Vauquelin. The decisive stage will take place tomorrow in the 10-kilometer mountain time trial from Beckenried to Stockhütte.
