Giro Eclipse Spherical: Aero helmet with good ventilation
The cycling helmet pioneer is providing Team Visma–Lease-a-Bike with two helmets for road stages: the Giro Eclipse Spherical and the Aries. The former focuses on aerodynamics, while the latter focuses on ventilation. According to the manufacturer, both models weigh almost exactly the same; however, the editorial team's scales show 308 grams (Eclipse) and 268 grams (Aries).
Despite its aerodynamic design, the Giro Eclipse Spherical is blessed with numerous ventilation openings: We count six air intakes at the front, two vents on top, and six outlets at the rear. Channels connect the openings, allowing airflow to flow across the head. This makes the Eclipse suitable for most riding conditions, except for particularly hot days – that's when the Aries comes into play.
Exclusive Mips inner shell
The "Mips Spherical" system, a special shape of the inner shell integrated into the foam body of the helmet, ensures a high level of safety. This is an exclusive development of the manufacturers Giro and Bell in conjunction with Mips, and is only available in helmets from these two brands.
The Eclipse Spherical fits comfortably, and the padding, treated with antibacterial silver ions, is pleasant. A spare pad for the forehead is included. The rear head ring of the "Roc Loc" system sits comfortably large, and the small adjustment dial is easy to operate. Typical Giro features timeless, pleasing shapes; the price of just under €260 is quite reasonable. Giro offers three sizes and the colors blue, black-red, black, and white.
