Test BULLS Copperhead EVO 29: the all-rounder from the Cologne-based brand has been upgraded with an integrated lighting system and can even be legally tuned for even more powerful acceleration – for example, when going uphill steeply or when the traffic light turns green.
E-mountain bikes are enjoying growing popularity, while classic, non-motorized off-road models are increasingly losing traction among customers. Of course, new drive concepts, modern gear systems, and sophisticated chassis solutions are what attract customers most to E-MTBs. But practical details also play an important role – especially if the bike is used not only off-road but also for everyday use. And the BULLS Copperhead EVO 29 is aimed precisely at this interface.
Innovative cornering light in the head tube
One of the most striking innovations in the 2025 model year is the integrated lighting system, which comes as standard and replaces the previous MonkeyLink connectors for retrofittable lighting. The front light is discreetly integrated into the head tube and, thanks to its positioning on the fork shaft, provides excellent cornering illumination. The system is complemented by two permanently installed rear lights on the dropouts, which, although mounted rather low, shine all the brighter for it. With this lighting system, the Copperhead is always ready for use, even in the dark, which increases its everyday utility. For additional illumination—for example, when venturing out onto the trails at night—you can mount a helmet lamp or an additional headlight.
The new BULLS Copperhead also stands out from its predecessor with its fully integrated cable routing from the handlebar stem, giving the bike a significantly cleaner appearance. One design change is that the down tube and motor mount are now made from a single piece.
Smartphone interface instead of display
The electrical equipment also includes a smartphone connection located in front of the stem. The Copperhead isn't equipped with a traditional e-bike display; instead, you can use your phone to view ride data or navigate. The Bosch System Controller on the top tube controls the drive system, which uses colored LEDs to display the ride mode and range.
The e-hardtail is powered by the 5th-generation Bosch Performance Line CX motor. The already high standard torque of 85 Nm can be increased to 100 Nm via a software update. The 600 Wh battery installed on the test bike is sufficient for most applications, while an 800 Wh version is also available for long tours on challenging terrain.
Relaxed geometry for everyday use and touring
The frame geometry demonstrates that the bike is designed for both sporty and everyday use. The slack head angle ensures good straight-line stability off-road, while the slightly more moderate seat angle compared to a "real" e-MTB ensures a more comfortable riding position. The 120 mm suspension fork and the chunky 29-inch Schwalbe tires underscore its off-road character. As a typical touring MTB, the BULLS is equipped with 29-inch wheels; the smaller frame sizes XS and S feature 27,5-inch wheels, which allow for better handling for smaller riders.
With a ten-speed Shimano Cues drivetrain and wide-range cassette, the bike is tuned for challenging terrain, yet remains easier to maintain and more cost-effective than twelve-speed systems. The Linkglide technology also increases the longevity of the drivetrain components.
BULLS is asking for a price of under €4.000 for the bike (including a 600 Wh battery), positioning the Copperhead EVO 29 as a versatile option for both sporty and everyday use. Most users won't need more than this from an e-mountain bike, and they should have a lot of fun with this bike.
