State-of-the-art protection technologies with a playful approach: Puky Sparky, the children's helmet that grows with them

4 December 2025 by Andrew Waldera

Product news: The new Sparky children's helmet from the Puky range combines high-quality protective technology with a playful approach designed to actively motivate children to wear a helmet. Sparky aims to offer children safe and flexible solutions across different age groups. Thanks to its wide adjustment range, the helmet can be used from balance bikes to 26" children's bicycles.

With the Sparky children's helmet, children's vehicle specialist Puky and Unit 1, a company specializing in smart bicycle accessories, combine their core strengths. Puky has stood for safety, family-oriented products, and innovative solutions since 1949, while Unit 1 integrates state-of-the-art safety technology. Like the award-winning Puky Next balance bike, which grows with the child from 12 to 14 inches thanks to innovative FlipChip technology, the children's helmet also follows the principle of offering safe and flexible solutions for children across different age groups. The helmet is designed for children from approximately 3 to 9 years old and can be ideally adjusted thanks to a wide adjustment system (49–53 cm). Weighing only 320 g, Sparky is exceptionally lightweight, water-repellent, and features a Fidlock magnetic closure that allows children to open and close it independently and without pinching.

Seven light animations – from a gentle glow to dynamic pulse effects – can be intuitively switched with a simple tap, adding further visual accents to the six exterior colors: black, corn yellow, green, grey, red, and violet. The rear light lasts up to 25 hours, indicates the battery level with a glowing animation when switched on and off, and is charged via USB-C. Soft silicone inserts, which simply slide into the top ventilation openings, offer additional customization options. They are available in Dino, Lightning, and Spike designs, as well as in ice white and tangerine orange, allowing for individual designs without compromising protective function. All components – from the electronics and battery to the helmet shell – are individually replaceable, promoting durability and sustainability.

The free Unit 1 app unlocks the full potential of the Sparky helmet. Its intuitive user interface allows users to playfully create colors, patterns, and light animations for a truly personalized look. The app is designed not only to be fun but also to ensure complete control over the safety features. The children's helmet naturally meets the international safety standards CPSC 1203 and EN 1078, thus maintaining the high quality and safety standards that Puky has stood for for decades. The company operates a comprehensive testing center where, according to the manufacturer, its products are tested far beyond legal requirements to produce vehicles that perform exceptionally well in everyday use. The helmet is available for €99,99.
