SQlab 612R Ergowave 2.0 Carbon: The racing bike saddle with system ambition

6 May 2026 by Florian Nowak

Product news: SQlab expands its road portfolio with a new top model: The SQlab 612R Ergowave 2.0 Carbon is clearly designed for sporty use and targets riders who expect one thing above all from a saddle: a stable, efficient connection to the bike. Comfort in the classic sense is less important than precisely tuned ergonomics for high intensity and long periods of exertion.

Weighing around 125 grams and featuring carbon rails and a carbon shell, the new SQlab 612R Ergowave 2.0 Carbon occupies a segment where every detail contributes to performance. The available widths of 12, 13, 14, and 15 centimeters demonstrate that SQlab's ergonomic approach isn't defined solely by a uniform shape, but rather by tailoring the design to different sit bone widths.

SQlab remains true to its established saddle design logic: The rear section serves as a defined contact zone, while the shape in the middle is intended to relieve pressure on sensitive structures. The short, race-oriented silhouette supports a forward-leaning riding position, common in sporty road cycling. This is relevant for ambitious riders because a consistent pelvic position not only influences comfort but also pedaling efficiency, control, and aerodynamics.

A key feature is the laterally flexing shell construction. SQlab describes it as a solution designed to better absorb vertical and lateral movements while pedaling, without sacrificing longitudinal stiffness. In practice, this means the saddle should remain responsive but not feel rigid. The stated pressure relief in the perineal area is up to 60 percent; the relief zone is adjusted accordingly depending on the saddle width.

Also noteworthy is the approach of not considering the saddle in isolation. SQlab explicitly points to its interaction with the SQ-Bib Shorts ONE12 3.0, whose reduced, high-density padding is designed to distort the saddle's characteristics as little as possible. In doing so, the brand positions the 612R not as a standalone comfort component, but as part of a coordinated contact point system of saddle and shorts.

For specialist retailers and technically minded road cyclists, the new 612R Ergowave 2.0 Carbon is particularly exciting because it represents a clear alternative to heavily padded solutions. SQlab focuses on defined support, targeted pressure relief, and excellent feedback. This should appeal especially to riders who prefer a sporty, active riding position and are willing to precisely adjust the saddle to their width, cycling shorts, and intended use.

The 612R Ergowave 2.0 Carbon is therefore less a promise of comfort than an efficiency component. It is aimed at road racers and performance-oriented frequent riders who understand ergonomics as a functional part of power transfer. This is precisely where its editorial relevance lies: the saddle demonstrates how much modern road bike ergonomics has moved away from pure padding logic – towards coordinated systems that consider seating position, pressure distribution, and freedom of movement together.

The SQlab 612R Ergowave 2.0 Carbon saddle will be available from specialist retailers from June for 349,99 euros.

About Florian Nowak

Florian Nowak is a professional cyclist at the EuropeTour level and has competed in many international races. At the German championship in 2017, he was the best non-WorldTour professional in 7th place and was therefore able to recommend himself for the Tour de L'Avenir and the World Championships. But he doesn't just feel comfortable on the racing bike, he's also always drawn to off-road terrain. In addition to sport, he works on his second mainstay and has completed his business administration studies at the LMU Munich.
