Cycling giant Giant and its subsidiary Liv are revamping their road and all-road bike portfolios! For the 2027 model year, the brands are presenting fresh equipment options for their popular aluminum classics, the Contend and Beliv. Whether you're looking for fast-paced road training with the SL versions or maximum freedom off the beaten track with the AR models – we'll show you what's changing and the specific upgrades the Giant and Liv bikes are receiving!
We recently had the opportunity to take a closer look at Giant's new drop-bar models at their in-house trade show. With these latest updates, Giant and their women's brand Liv are bringing a noticeable boost to their entry-level and endurance bike segments . The model ranges are clearly divided according to their intended use: The SL (Super Light) models focus on classic road performance, roll on slim 28mm tires, and offer an agile ride . Those who don't want to be bothered by rough asphalt or light gravel sections should opt for the AR (All-Road) versions . These come with wider 32mm tires (Giant Gavia Fondo 2) and, thanks to the integration of the modern UDH dropout standard, offer complete future-proofing for modern drivetrain systems.
Technically, the Giant Contend and Liv Beliv series impress with well-thought-out integration solutions: The Giant Contact Aerolight cockpit tidies up the cable routing on the handlebars, while the manufacturer's own D-Fuse carbon seatpost is designed to effectively filter out tiring road vibrations . For the drivetrains, Giant and Liv offer a wide range of options, including the proven Shimano 105 12-speed derailleurs, Tiagra and Sora groupsets, or the robust, new Shimano Cues LinkGlide derailleurs, depending on the model.
The Giant Contend SL is the perfect answer for anyone looking for an efficient and balanced aluminum-based road bike platform . With its lightweight AluxX SL frame, D-Fuse carbon seatpost, and sporty yet comfortable road geometry, the Contend SL is designed to offer excellent power transfer and comfort on long road rides – all at attractive prices.
