Popular bag manufacturer integrates specially developed material: Ortlieb presents its first Tidura products

September 1, 2026 by Lukas Mühlehner

Ortlieb Tidura

Ortlieb's waterproof panniers and pannier bags are very popular with commuters, bikepackers, and trekking travelers. The company aims to build on this popularity with its specially developed material system called Tidura. What are the advantages of this waterproof fabric, made in Europe? We were able to get a first impression of the new Ortlieb Tidura bags.

Why is Ortlieb switching to Tidura?

Ortlieb justifies the switch to the waterproof Tidura fabric with the numerous advantages that come with controlling the entire value chain : By having every step of production in Ortlieb's hands – "from the first thread to the coating and on to the finished bag" – they can offer sustainable and durable equipment, explains Martin Esslinger, CEO of Ortlieb. Tidura is woven in the Benelux countries and coated in Germany , where the high-frequency welding also takes place. The high quality standards pursued and the design, which is geared towards repairability , are essential for robust bicycle bags that can perform their function for a long time.

Ortlieb Tidura
Ortlieb is using its own Tidura fabric for selected new bags. Short delivery routes within Europe, rigorous quality controls, and collaboration with close partners are the reasons behind this change.

Tidura strong: Heavy-duty material for cycling

Tidura comes in two versions, with Tidura strong boasting the highest abrasion and tear resistance. The focus on robustness and absolute reliability makes the fabric ideal for use on bicycle tours, where loads are transported over long distances – sometimes under adverse conditions. At launch on September 1st, Ortlieb will offer three bags made from Tidura strong:

Ortlieb Duffle Zip

The duffle bag with a practical zippered pocket comes in 40 or 60L storage capacity and can be carried as a backpack or bag. The Tidura strong fabric protects the contents from water and ensures that nothing gets lost while traveling.

Ortlieb Back-Roller 20l Zip-Pocket

Naturally, the new Ortlieb Tidura product line also includes a classic pannier: the Back-Roller with a zippered pocket and roll-top closure offers 20 liters of storage space in the main compartment and an additional 3-liter external pocket. The Quick-Lock 2.2 attachment system with an anti-scratch coating is used.

Tidura core: Versatile, waterproof fabric for everyday use

Not every application requires the robust "strong" version. Ortlieb also offers Tidura core, a more flexible and lighter version of their proprietary fabric. It retains the waterproof properties of the "strong" material but can be woven in a more versatile way, making it ideal for lighter bags – perfect for commuting or other everyday tasks.

Ortlieb Daypack 23l

For now, the Ortlieb Daypack is the only product made from Tidura core in the new bag lineup. The 23-liter backpack, designed for everyday use, features an integrated padded laptop compartment.
