With the introduction of the TQ HPR50 in 2022, TQ clearly went against the grain. Even though light-assist drives were all the rage at the time, everyone was trying to bridge the gap to full-power systems. The Bavarian manufacturer focused on a different approach with its HPR50: minimal assistance, compact dimensions, low weight, and above all, natural riding characteristics. This approach struck a chord, and a whole series of very exciting bikes followed in the years that followed.
TQ HPR50 in practice and laboratory test: The most natural E-MTB motor?
E-MTB Drive Test: We took a detailed look at the TQ HPR50. In addition to comprehensive riding impressions from real-world use, we also determined performance and consumption figures on the test bench. As the manufacturer of what is still the most powerful mid-drive motor available, the HPR120s, TQ was undoubtedly already a familiar name to many e-bikers in recent years. At the latest with the introduction of […]
Just two years later, in 2024, TQ followed up with the HPR60. While outwardly almost identical, it features a completely new internal design. This results in slightly more power and torque – 60 Nm and 350 watts at peak. However, the greater improvement lies in efficiency: better thermal performance (thanks in part to the new cooling fins) and reduced battery consumption are the result. Along with the HPR60, the 580 Wh battery was also introduced, boasting one of the highest energy densities on the market at 216 Wh/kg.
Since then, a whole range of new bikes featuring the TQ HPR60 have been introduced – including e-mountain bikes, urban bikes, gravel bikes, and road bikes. The latter, however, increasingly rely on the HPR40 minimal assist motor introduced last year.

BMC Fourstroke AMP LT
The Swiss brand BMC hasn't equipped the Fourstroke AMP LT with a four-stroke engine, but instead relies on the 350 W output of the TQ HPR60. Wordplay aside, the BMC Fourstroke AMP LT surges forward with powerful acceleration thanks to its lightweight components and XC-oriented design. Both equipment variants are available for 6.999 or 9.999 The Euro model uses a RockShox suspension system to manage 120 mm of travel at the front and rear. There's a 1 kg weight difference between the versions; the top model, equipped with a 360 Wh battery, weighs in at 16,3 kg. We're eager to see when the first one will be available. 32-inch version a light e-MTB is coming.

The eElja is the Icelandic brand's first e-mountain bike and doesn't hold back on ambitious goals. Powered by TQ, this trail bike offers a playful 140/130 mm of travel, resulting in a record-breaking weight of 16,6 kg in its top-of-the-line version. Norco Sight VLT TQ
The Norco Sight VLT TQ is currently the only high-pivot full-suspension e-MTB with the TQ HPR60 motor. The advantage of this rear suspension design? The high pivot point results in a rearward-biased wheel travel curve, allowing the rear wheel to better absorb impacts. It's no wonder, then, that the Norco Sight VLT TQ, with its 150/160 mm of travel, can be incredibly fast. The only build option currently offered by the Canadian manufacturer costs €9.900.

Rose File Plus
With its simple, functionalist forms and minimalist branding, the frame of the Rose File Plus is reminiscent of a Bauhaus design. However, this 140/150 mm full-suspension trail bike is by no means a relic of the last century, offering plenty of reserves for downhill riding. Moreover, the riding fun is comparatively affordable: prices for the four available build options range from €4.900 to €6.900. All models feature a 500 Wh battery for greater range and more elevation gain.

Deer R.X290
Another contender in the race for the lightest e-mountain bike with the TQ HPR60 motor is the Rotwild R.X290. Not only the relatively small 290 Wh battery, but also the highly optimized carbon chassis and the choice of lightweight components contribute to the R.X290's phenomenal weight of 16,2 kg in the top-of-the-line version. Unusually, Rotwild even offers a frameset for €4.990; the two complete bikes cost €9.990 and €11.990 respectively.

Record-breaking: With a 360 Wh battery, the Scott Lumen 900 SL weighs in at just 16,0 kg in a tubeless setup, according to the manufacturer. The full carbon frame with HMX fibers and the "hidden" shock play a major role in this. A total of 13.999 The top model costs €6.299, while the entry-level model is the Scott Lumen 920.

The Scott Voltage trail bike also integrates the shock into the interior of its full carbon frame. This gives the 150mm trail bike a striking look. The Lumen, a model derived from the enduro platform, features a dropper post: a lever on the handlebars allows the rear travel to be limited from 155mm to 100mm, improving the Voltage's climbing ability for challenging or long uphill sections. Combined with the 160mm of front travel, this makes the Scott Voltage a versatile all-mountain all-rounder.

BMC URS AMP
The URS AMP ONE and TWO models stand out not only for their unassuming names, but above all for the exciting micro-travel concept that the Swiss company is pursuing with its electric gravel bikes. At first glance, the MTT Suspension Fork looks like a normal rigid fork, but it offers 20 mm of travel at the crown, managed by a system of a steel spring and hydraulic damping. At the rear, an elastomer bridge absorbs vibrations and provides approximately 10 mm of travel, according to BMC.
