Race Face Turbine Pedal: The turbine spins up the grip

September 25, 2026 by Michael Wahl

RaceFace comes from Vancouver, more precisely from the North Shore, an area where mountain bike components traditionally have to withstand a lot. The brand was founded in the early 1990s and has since made a name for itself primarily with robust yet lightweight MTB components.

The Turbine series stands for high-quality aluminum components for all-mountain and enduro riding. The Turbine pedal follows this formula: It combines a robust 6061 aluminum body with a chromoly steel axle, resulting in a 115 x 110 mm platform size and a 20 mm stack height. The pair weighs 419 grams. Inside, RaceFace uses a combination of bushings and bearings. This creates a large usable platform and allows for maintenance when needed. RaceFace offers a rebuild kit with bearings, bushings, seals, and end caps, and individual replacement pins are also available. So, you don't have to throw away the Turbine when something wears out. Speaking of pins: The eleven pins per side are six millimeters long and their effective height is adjustable. Four replacement pins and 44 washers are included. The washers reduce the pin length by 0,8 millimeters each, allowing for customized grip.

The Turbine pedal makes a striking visual impression. The build quality appears high, and the various available colors are real eye-catchers. The pin arrangement is particularly noticeable: the pins are positioned around the edge of the platform, leaving slightly more space in the center. Combined with the three-millimeter concave shape, this creates a rather unique riding experience. When you place your foot on the pedal and apply pressure, it actually feels a bit like a spoon. Your foot sits almost in a hollow. This takes some getting used to at first, but it feels really good and immediately inspires confidence. Your shoe practically sticks to the pedal. On climbs, we were able to easily apply pressure backward and even upward with different shoes without losing contact with the pedal.

Even downhill, your foot stays firmly in place. However, this extreme grip has a slight drawback: once your foot is in position, it tends to stay there. Making spontaneous adjustments while riding is nearly impossible. The Turbine is therefore more of a "set it up and leave it alone" type than one that allows you to easily shift your foot a couple of centimeters. If you want to reduce the grip a bit, you can use the included washers under the pins. For the sake of completeness, as with all painted pedals, the paint unfortunately wears off quickly. Even after our first day trip, there were noticeable marks from contact with rocks. Functionally irrelevant, but a shame visually – especially with the stylish color options.

The RaceFace Turbine is a high-quality and extremely grippy pedal that practically locks your foot in place. The pronounced concavity and cleverly arranged pins inspire confidence, but also require you to find your ideal foot position beforehand. If you're looking for maximum grip and a serviceable pedal with a striking look, this is a pretty compelling package.
