Leaderboard / Test: Inconspicuous and out of sight, bicycle tire levers are hardly noticed in everyday life. But at the latest with a flat tire, the little helpers show that nothing works without them. Due to the wide variety of designs and qualities, choosing the ideal tire lever is like taking a card from a deck of cards. In our list of the best, we reveal which tool has a joker behind it and which model is pushing your score down. Now it's your turn: Draw your card!

What is important in a bicycle tire lever?

As smart as the tire lever is, the requirements are immense. The lever must allow easy and uncomplicated removal of the tire. The same applies accordingly to the mounting of a tire. The feel plays just as important a role as a shovel or chisel that can be easily pushed under the tire bead. Rough surfaces and recessed grips in the grip area ensure a non-slip grip. Of course, the material used and the length of the lever also have a major impact on the work. Long levers impress with a high leverage effect, but sometimes cannot be stowed in a saddlebag. Stability is just as important. If you have a flat tire on a tour, you can use a lot, but not a tire lever that breaks when you put the tire on or off.

Stability is important, but not everything!

Stability should not be “bought” at any price. Metal tire levers require a little more attention when working. Slipping can quickly lead to scratches or dents on the rim. High-quality bicycle metal tire levers often have special protective pads or plastic frames to prevent damage to the rim. Tire levers made of plastic are far less problematic in this regard. However, softer models give way and bend under high force. This is anything but efficient. Harder models may break off under certain circumstances. A fine line with special requirements that the manufacturers face with a wide variety of solution models such as integrated steel cores or sophisticated material recipes.

Bicycle tire levers in the test: Which lever is the best?

In our bicycle tire lever test, we tested a wide variety of models in practice. How efficiently can you work with the respective lever and is it worth the money? What about stability, especially with stubborn tires? What equipment is there? Have you thought of a spoke hook and a practical snap-together function? These are questions that we answer in our individual tests and the leaderboard.
