E-Performance / Product News: Batavus from Heerenveen in the Netherlands has been producing bicycles for over 100 years. For some time now, the focus has clearly been on urban areas and the e-bike segment is also growing steadily. So it's not surprising that the Batavus highlights for 2020 come from this area - two comfortable touring and everyday bikes with Bosch motors.
Product news: Batavus - two-wheeler tradition from the Netherlands
Product news: As one of the largest bicycle manufacturers in the Netherlands, Batavus can look back on more than 100 years of history. Even if you are proud of your own tradition, the current models show that you have arrived in the present. Heerenveen is not necessarily the hub of the world. In the bicycle cosmos, however, the town of 50.000 inhabitants in Dutch Friesland plays […]
Batavus Finez E-go: comfort tourer with Bosch motor
The Batavus Finez E-Go is completely new for the coming year. It is the first e-bike in the Dutch company's portfolio with a Powertube battery integrated into the frame. In the top version, there is even space for the new 625Wh battery in the down tube, which should give the tourer an above-average range. The battery feeds the proven Bosch Active Line Plus motor - our favorite for all-rounders like the Finez E-Go. Not only does it bring enough power to the asphalt, it also does this job extremely quietly. Another bonus of the Bosch touring motor: when it's switched off or you're riding above the 25 km/h limit, there's no internal resistance and the bike can be pedaled lightly.
The Finez E-Go will be available in two frame shapes and two or three equipment variants at market launch. In addition to a classic step-through frame with beautiful lines, there is also a diamond frame with a horizontal top tube. Both were developed with insights from the Delft University of Technology. This is welcome, because a clever construction is necessary for step-through skis in particular to prevent unpleasant flapping.
The two equipment variants differ primarily in terms of battery capacity, gearshift and braking system. While the top model Finez E-Go Power Exclusive offers a Gates belt drive and hydraulic disc brakes in addition to the mentioned 625Wh battery, the cheaper version uses the 500Wh battery, hydraulic rim brakes and a conventional drive with chain. In terms of price, 500 euros lie between the two variants - the Finez E-Go Power Exclusive costs 3.699 euros, the E-Go Power accordingly at 3.199 euros. In both cases, shifting is carried out by a Shimano Nexus 8-speed shifting hub, with the Finez E-Go Power also optionally available with a back pedal.
Batavus Suerte E-Go: Calm everyday companion with belt drive
The second newcomer at Batavus for the 2020 season is the Suerte E-Go. Here, too, there is motor power from Bosch, but the new Performance Line motor is used instead of the Active Line Plus. This offers a bit more power without sacrificing the advantages such as the integrated freewheel or the low background noise. The 500Wh battery of the Suerte E-Go is located externally on the down tube - optically perhaps less elegant than a complete integration, but easier to handle in everyday life due to the simple removal.
The highlight of the Suerte E-Go is certainly its belt drive, which makes the bike particularly low-maintenance and the drive extremely quiet. For 3.299 euros, which the Suerte E-Go costs, you also get hydraulic rim brakes, a suspension fork and a Shimano Nexus 8 hub gear. An extremely attractive overall package.
